The Bell Tolls for a Johnnie Giant: Remembering Warren โ€œBozโ€ Bostrom

A profound stillness has settled over Collegeville. The College of Saint Benedict and Saint Johnโ€™s University communities are united in sorrow today as we mourn the devastating loss of one of our most beloved and inspiring figures: Warren “Boz” Bostrom. A proud 1995 SJU alumnus, a former Johnnie football player, and a powerhouse Professor of Accounting and Finance, Boz was the definition of a “Johnnie.” He was an exceptional mentor whose passion for teaching and unwavering integrity shaped countless futures. His passing, after a long and courageous battle with illness, leaves an enormous, unfillable void in our hearts and on our campuses. We cherish the memory of a man who truly lived his life with purpose, dedication, and boundless spirit.

A Legacy Beyond the Classroom: Ethics, Leadership, and Impact

Boz Bostromโ€™s influence stretched far beyond the walls of SJU and CSB. As an esteemed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and author, he became a national voice, traveling across the country to speak on the critical topics of ethics and leadership. He even served as the Chair of the Minnesota Society of CPAs Board of Directors, bringing real-world credibility and passion back to his students in the accounting and finance programs. His commitment to excellence and honesty was a daily masterclass for his students. He didn’t just teach the numbers; he taught life. The fact that a life so vibrant, so committed to service and mentorship, has been cut short after a difficult and private battle with illness is a cruel injustice that makes this goodbye feel impossibly painful.

Forever a Johnnie: Carrying Bozโ€™s Unwavering Spirit

The true measure of Boz Bostromโ€™s life is not found in his professional titles, but in the enduring loyalty and love he inspired. He spent his life fostering the “Johnnie family” spirit, ensuring that every student felt mentored, valued, and challenged. His legacy is one of unwavering kindness and the pursuit of excellence. As we collectively grieve, we urge the SJU and CSB communitiesโ€”students, alumni, faculty, and staffโ€”to carry forward the lessons he taught: act with integrity, pursue your passions relentlessly, and live a life of purpose. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends. May the memory of Warren “Boz” Bostromโ€”the athlete, the mentor, the educator, and the Johnnie giantโ€”continue to inspire generations. Rest in peace, Boz. You will be missed, forever.
